Senior training follows soon after and any number of senior club and life members are also floating around to assist those that wish to gain valuable tips and assistance with their game.
The Play On! Sports Vouchers program is designed to help more young people get involved in organised physical activity. By reducing the cost of participation, Play On! From the beginning of the 2000/01 cricket season the Toowoomba Cricket Association combined all of the Junior & Senior Associations, which brought about the formation of the University Cricket Club Junior Teams.
The TCA association allocated local Primary Schools to each club to assist with the development and growth of the club. Players from these schools were encouraged to play for the club assigned to them but this was not compulsory. The schools that University were allocated included:
In our first season we were able to field teams from Under 9’s through to Under 12’s. Coaches and managers were allocated to each team and they were supported by other parents on game day. Training sessions were held on Wednesday afternoon at the University cricket nets. As our club included players from Greenmount area several training sessions were also conducted at the Emu Creek school.
As the years followed the club continued to grow in numbers to a stage that we are now filling teams in all grades. Over those years we are pleased to state that we have also had several young ladies begin their cricket careers with the University Cricket Club.
The Juniors are a strong and vibrant part of the University Cricket Club and many players have graduated through the ranks to play A Grade cricket and beyond.
